Louisville Distance Project: Spring 2022

The Louisville Distance Project is the most comprehensive training program that Louisville has to offer. By partnering with local health and fitness professionals, product vendors, skillful coaches, LDP Mentors, and local race organizers, our program provides an unparalleled training experience. Whether you're a seasoned half or full marathoner or looking to do either the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon or Cincinnati's Flying Pig Marathon for the first time ever, these groups are designed to help meet your needs as you crush your goals! Spring training starts on Monday, January 10th at 6:00 PM. Thereafter, and for the duration of the 16 week training season, this group will meet every Monday and Wednesday at 6:00 PM as well as Saturdays at 8:00 AM. This group is open to runners and walkers of all paces. While this program is specifically designed to fully prepare you to run the Kentucky Derby Festival Mini & Full Marathon or Flying Pig, but we can make training schedule adjustments to accommodate different goal races.

NEW THIS SEASON, we've added Saturday TRAIL long runs for those interested in training for a spring trail half marathon, such as the Backside Trail Marathon

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF THIS GROUP IS RIGHT FOR YOU? You should be comfortable running at least a 3 mile distance to begin the half marathon program, and a 6 mile distance for the full marathon program. If you can run, run/walk, or walk one of those distances to start, then you can participate in this group. If you can't, don't worry! We also have 5k and 10k programs as well, which will take place later this spring.

Welcome to the first official meetup of the Louisville Distance Project Fall 2021 season! For tonight all groups will run 3 miles, from the store to Seneca Park (one loop) and then back. We will have a special guest from Brooks Running. You will be paired with your mentor and we will go over some of the FAQs you may have for the season. So join us as early as you can, run will start promptly at 6:30 pm. Don't forget your lights and reflectivity, as some of the lights at Seneca park are not always lit.

Hey Team! This will be our first Saturday Long Run , even if it isn't very long. We will meet at 8 am for this first run, but please pay attention to emails as we will be adjusting the start of of our long runs due to weather and mileage.

Trail group will be running 4 miles with easy elevation meeting at the Seneca Park basketball courts to navigate the Wilderness Loop.

We will be starting our hill repeats meeting at Cherokee Park. We encourage all groups to run/walk a half mile warm up and conclude with a half mile run/walk cool down. For those not doing hill repeats, you can navigate parts of the park to include some inclines. 

Beginner half marathon will run 3 miles easy. 

Intermediate/Advanced half marathon will run 8 x 200 M hill repeats with 200 M recovery between sets.

Beginner marathon will run 5 miles.

Intermediate/Advanced marathon will either run 5 miles or can do the following hill repeats 8 x 200 M hill repeats with 200 M recovery between sets.

No run from the store on race days. Please look for further information about this race as it becomes available. Time and location of race TBA. 

Beginner half groups will run the race distance. Intermediate half group will run the race distance plus 3 miles, for a total of 8 miles. 

Both marathon groups will run the race plus an additional amount to mileage to complete 14 miles for your long run. Please consult with your mentor or training program director about the best way to accomplish this mileage on a race day. 

Trail group will run 6 miles of easy elevation meeting at Herrod's Creek. Please check with your mentor(s) for start time.
